Glossop dessert house permanently closes its doors

CLOSED FOR GOOD: The shop on Norfolk Street.

A dessert house in Glossop has closed its doors for the final time after just over two years in business.

Freaky Shakes, located opposite the town's train station on Norfolk Street, opened to the public for the first time on 30 August 2019.

The shop then closed in December that year for a month before re-opening under new ownership in mid-January 2020.

But, as was the case for many other businesses, the shutters had to come down again during successive lockdowns as restrictions were imposed throughout the pandemic.

And coronavirus has now ultimately led to the permanent closure of the shop, which sold a range of desserts and drinks including ice-creams, cakes and milkshakes.

Friday (1 October) was the last day of trading.

The shop posted on its Facebook page: "It's been a struggle for all businesses during Covid and unfortunately, since reopening in June, we haven’t made enough money to cover our overheads so the owners have decided to cut their losses and focus on other opportunities.

"We have built up a group of loyal, regular customers and we really do appreciate every one of you who have supported us through our journey in Glossop. We wish all the people in Glossop the best."
