Glossop dance centre's brilliant fundraising for High Peak charity

A dance centre based in Hadfield has raised more than £2,000 in aid of a local charity in the High Peak.

Stardust Dance Centre, based at The Place in Glossopdale School on Newshaw Lane, held their annual Christmas show recently and this year chose to have a Charity Christmas Raffle in aid of Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust.

The Dance Centre raised an amazing £1,044 in aid of the local charity, and the amount was matched by a local resident who generously doubled their fundraising to make an incredible total of £2,108.

The dance centre was founded by Jean Graves MBE, with over 50 years of dancing history, and is now run by her daughter Paula.

Paula contacted Blythe House in early November to start planning their community fundraiser.

She said: "Blythe House has done so much in supporting my family through a difficult time and we could not thank them enough - all the support and care has been amazing.

"At Stardust Dance Centre we have always had our annual Christmas show, but for me I wanted to give back to a local charity that has been invaluable to my family.

"I would like to personally thank everyone who donated – I am blown away by the generosity we have received from local supporters contributing to the prizes for the raffle. A very special thank you to Stephen Minshull from Cedar Labels who matched our fundraising efforts."

The amount raised will provide 12 nights of care for a local patient with a life-limiting illness who wants to remain in their own home at the end of their life.

Becca Gregory, Fundraising and Communications Manager at Blythe House, said: "When we received the call from Paula letting us know that she would like to run a Christmas raffle in aid of our charity, we thought it was a great idea.

"As a charity we are always grateful for local community groups setting up their own fundraising events for us – it’s so important to have local supporters like Paula who can advocate the services we can provide for local communities like Glossop."

Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care, including psychological and educational support to patients, families and carers in the High Peak & Derbyshire Dales, including those who are bereaved.
