Glossop Creates nominated for regional creative award

Glossop Creates has moved into its new home KINDER on Arundel Street, which is a community collective for creativity in Glossop.

Glossop Creates has been nominated for a regional award at the Derbyshire Mainframe Awards - just one year after launching.

The campaign is one of just three county-wide initiatives to be nominated in the “Best Creative or Digital Startup” category - a major accolade for the Glossop Creates team and the town’s creative community.

Claire Tymon, from placemaking arts organisation LOCAL, who initiated Glossop Creates, said: “Glossop Creates was developed to empower the town’s creative community to share ideas, enhance skills and lead on positive creative action across Glossopdale.

"Following consultation with local creatives and independent businesses, there was a clear need to support the sector by raising awareness of their unique and astonishing talent and skills, boosting business success and sustaining local creative employment.

“Officially launching in December 2020, we developed a website to bring the town’s artists, creatives, makers and indie business owners together in one place as a directory. At the same time, we introduced social media channels to communicate with and profile the businesses and individuals which are part of the Glossop Creates community.

“We are incredibly proud to have been nominated for this award, which is part of a campaign to celebrate creative and digital talent from all over the county.”

Over the last 12 months, Glossop Creates has spearheaded several campaigns that have supported and bolstered local businesses and creatives during the global pandemic; notably the Love Glossop Support Local initiative, and the Love Glossop Winter Art Trail which brought the community together over the festive season in 2021.

Additionally, Glossop Creates has introduced a Pairings project scheme for local artists which sees them paired up with topics that reflect various elements of the town’s heritage, landscapes and stories.

Glossop Creates’ website now boasts over 80 local businesses and creatives, regular content, an online marketplace so people can shop locally from home, and an events section. It is considered the main digital signpost to creativity in Glossop.

Claire continued: “Recently, we have moved into our new home at KINDER on Arundel Street, which is a community collective for creativity in Glossop. We are about to launch issue one of the KIN.DER Zine, after a successful pilot issue and we are also planning to host some artist-led walks which facilitate the discovery of the town’s creative and industrial past.

“The town’s creative community has been incredible and has really pulled together to support our various initiatives - we look forward to planning and hosting even more events and campaigns during 2022 and beyond.

“This nomination is very much appreciated and demonstrates the hard work of the Glossop Creates team and the wider creative and independent business community.”
