Glossop concert raises thousands for fundraising project

The Last Night of Glossop Proms concert is being hailed a success.

Arnfield Brass band entertained the audience at The Place Theatre at Glossopdale School with classical tunes such as Nesum Dorma and finished with a rousing chorus of songs including Jerusalem.

The audience wore red, white and blue and were supplied with Union Jack flags to wave.

With an excellent turnout, good raffle sales and a £500 sponsorship from Windy Harbour Farm Hotel, Glossop Rotary Club managed to achieve the £2,400 they need for their contribution to a £30,000 global grant for the Kosovo community in Kampala, Uganda.

The event organiser, Derek Baxter, says “This has been a great success and the support we have received, especially in these difficult times, has been remarkable. A special thanks must go to Arnfield Brass who fielded 26 musicians at a nominal cost”

The club’s partnership with the Rubaga Rotary Club in Kampala can now proceed to the next stage.

Derek says, “A special thanks must go to the charity Helping Uganda Schools (HUGS) for helping to facilitate this joint project. Their trustees Drs. Richard and Joanna Bircher attended the event and helped to sell sponsored water supplies for the Kosovo slum.”

Helping Uganda Schools (HUGS) is working in partnership with a Ugandan non-governmental organisation called Community Empowerment for Village Development (CEFOVID) in order to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the poorest people who live in capital city of Kampala
