Glossop-based drone photographer features in local exhibition

'The Female Form' - an exhibition featuring the work of five photographers including Glossop-based Carys Kaiser - is currently on display at the Wall in the Barn in Hadfield.

Formerly in the camera department at the BBC in Salford, Carys discovered how drones are used in television filming and decided to invest in her own. She has gone on to use this technology to film sequences for, amongst other broadcasters, BBC Breakfast and BBC Sport.

Carys' work developed from purely using her drone to capture video. She told us: “I decided that I needed to challenge myself to do stills photography."

The work Carys is presenting in this exhibition is part of an ongoing portrait project called 'A Girl from Above'.

Carys explained: “When planning a portrait I look at different landscapes as texture, as background to the image. Sometimes an image is in my mind and I go out to achieve that. Sometimes it comes from an item of clothing, a famous image or a famous person.

"On other occasions the idea comes from the woman I am photographing; often it is a collaboration between the two. The series is vast, the ones I have chosen to exhibit at the Wall in the Barn are ethereal or have strong messages and honour the fearless, courageous women who walk amongst us."

'The Female Form' exhibition will be open on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October from 11am until 4pm, and then continue from Monday 25 to Friday 29 October, 11am to 3pm.

Manager of the Wall in the Barn, Julia Norton, said: "I am thrilled to bring together the work of five extraordinary photographers. Alongside Carys, visitors will be able to see photographs by Ruby Hyde, Meena Gee, Lucy Ridges and Irena Siwiak Atamewan. The exhibition is free to enter and prints will be available to purchase."

The Wall in the Barn is a not-for-profit organisation, based at The Craft Barn off Station Road in Hadfield.
