Funds for the homeless

High Peak is to get a slice of a £263m Government aid package allocated to local authorities to help them deal with the problem of homelessness.

The borough council is set to receive £125,540 which will provide rough sleepers with the specialist support they need to get them off the streets ‘for good’.

The funding will enable all local authorities to do more to prevent and relieve homelessness.

The overall funding is an increase of almost 60 per cent on what the Government gave to deal with homelessness in the last financial year.

The package has been welcomed by newly elected High Peak MP Robert Largan.

Commenting on homelessness, Mr Largan said: “These are vulnerable people, who may be dealing with complex mental health problems or addictions and require specialist support to tackle these issues and turn their lives around, ensuring those sleeping on the streets in High Peak have access to the professional help and guidance they need to get back on their feet – taking us one step closer to ending rough sleeping for good.”
