Fund set up for memorial to Charlesworth man

A fund has been launched to establish a fitting memorial to a Charlesworth man.

The Ken Memorial Plaque was suggested after Ken Dibble, a founder of Glossop Rugby Club and a leading light in the Charlesworth Well Dressings, died earlier this year.

Friend John Hughes said: “A suggestion was made to put up a plaque near the well at Top School so his contribution to the village would not be forgotten.

"Ken was the driving force behind the annual village Well Dressing, involved in Remembrance Sunday at the cenotaph and, for many years, the guy who made sure everyone knew where to go and what to do on Carnival Day. He was also an inspiration to the Powsers Mountaineering Club.

“I remember him standing outside the house on Glossop Road, berating any driver going too fast by shaking his crutches at them!

“Quotes have been obtained for the plaque ranging from £550 for a simple rectangular affair, to about £1,000 for a version with a laser cut picture of Ken, rugby ball shaped plaque, etc. The fund stands at £250, including a contribution from the Parish Council.”

Fund organiser Bill Dakin said: “Rather than set up one of those charity page things where someone takes a chunk out your donation for the privilege, you can send a cheque, payable to W Deakin, to 19 Sherwood Fold, Charlesworth, Glossop, SK13 5HW. Let’s remember Ken in a fitting way.”
