When a Hadfield father saw a photo of his daughter on social media, he immediately thought she was in trouble.

But Graham Kidd later discovered that was far from the truth and 11-year-old Connie was in fact litter picking with her friends.

Connie Kidd meets her friends Ruby Lowcock and Poppie-Lea Lloyd most days in the playground on Roughfields.

But one day they noticed there was litter in the play area.

Ten-year-old Poppie said: “We decided to clean the rubbish up as young kids play here and we didn’t want them to come to any harm”.

The three girls decided to carry out an impromptu litter pick, which was witnessed by the Save Roughfields campaign leader Halina Billingham.

Halina said: “It was so refreshing to see the girls cleaning up the area by picking up litter. Youngsters normally get a bad press on social media, so I was delighted to see then taking pride in the local area."

Connie, Ruby and Poppie-Lea have all now been presented with a certificate and enamel pin badge by Halina and local councillor Ollie Cross.

Cllr Cross said: "It was a pleasure to present Connie, Poppie and Ruby with certificates and their own special edition Save Roughfields badges alongside Halina on behalf of the Save Roughfields Steering Committee.

"The girls are a total credit to themselves, their families and our local community. It was brilliant to highlight their good deed and relay to them our local community's gratitude and appreciation."
