Elderly woman taken to hospital after sustaining broken ankle

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team came to the aid of an elderly woman who had slipped, broken and dislocated an ankle whilst walking her dog on a muddy track in Tintwistle.

The team was called out on Saturday afternoon at around 12.30pm to help the 73-year-old.

A Glossop MRT spokesperson said that approximately 12 team members swiftly arrived to administer first aid and assist with a short stretcher carry to the woman's daughter's car - from where she was immediately transported to Tameside Hospital to await an operation.

The team was stood down at around 1pm.

GMRT - which receives no direct government funding - is continuing to appeal for donations to help ensure its volunteers can continue to turn out day and night to rescue people in wild and remote places.
