An elderly woman was freed from a car by firefighters and taken to hospital after a collision involving two vehicles on a main High Peak road. 

The woman, understood to be in her 80s, is not thought to have sustained any serious injuries. 

It happened on the A6 Buxton Road in Furness Vale, close to the primary school, just after 4pm on Tuesday afternoon (19 October). 

Police, paramedics and the fire service were all sent to the scene. 

Part of the road was closed for around two hours, causing significant congestion into surrounding areas including New Mills, Hayfield, Whaley Bridge and Disley. 

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called on Tuesday 19 October to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on Buxton Road at Furness Vale.

"Our officers attended, along with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service, and the road was closed while they dealt with the scene.

"A woman aged in her 80s was taken to hospital, but she is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries." 

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "At 4.22pm on 19 October 2021, firefighters from Chapel-En-Le-Frith and Greater Manchester’s Marple Fire Station attended a two-car road traffic collision on Buxton Road, Furness Vale. 

"Firefighters extricated one female and handed her into the care of East Midlands Ambulance Service before making the scene safe."
