Derbyshire residents want more smoke-free spaces

A consultation by the county council to extend smoke-free spaces across Derbyshire has had a positive response. 

Of the 645 responses so far, 85 per cent said they would support additional smoke-free spaces and 86 per cent said it was 'very important' or 'fairly important' to create additional smoke-free spaces across Derbyshire to reduce the risk of second-hand smoke. 

In addition, 97 per cent said it was 'very important' or 'fairly important' that people don't smoke in the presence of children. 

Cllr Carol Hart, DCC's Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, said: "We are constantly looking at ways to improve the health of Derbyshire residents and creating additional smoke free spaces is one way of doing this.

“Many of the proposed new spaces are aimed at benefitting the health of young children including at the school gates, in play areas and children’s sports clubs.

“We’re pleased to see the levels of support that the proposals have received from the Derbyshire public.”

The proposals will now pass to the Derbyshire Health and Wellbeing board, who will consider the next steps.
