Cuts to bus services affect passengers in the High Peak

Passengers have expressed their anger and concern about the cut to bus services being made across the High Peak.

The changes come into effect from 10th July and will have an impact on the TransPeak Service from Buxton to Derby and the 199 which runs from Buxton to Manchester Airport.

Minor timetable changes are also being made to the 61 service from Glossop to Buxton from that date.

The major changes to the 199 service which runs from Buxton to Manchester Airport will have an impact on evening journeys.

This means the last bus to the airport from Buxton will be at 5.45pm. The last departure from the Airport will be at 7.15pm.

But the decision has come in for criticism online, with passengers describing it as “short sighted” and “a bad move”.

While others said: “Perfect timing to spoil your summer travel arrangements,” and “Public transport around here is an absolute joke, what an embarrassment.”

Responding to fears of further cuts High Peak Buses have stated: “There are no plans currently for further changes.”

The 199 and TransPeak both operate as commercial routes and receive no subsidy.

On their website High Peak Buses say they are making changes to the TransPeak service due to passenger numbers which have not returned to pre-covid levels.

The service will run between Buxton and Matlock following a revised timetable, impacting journeys to the south of the county, who use the service for work or to visit the area for days out.

While other bus services operate between Bakewell and Derby the timetables do not match up meaning a 45-minute wait between connections.
