College joins new kickstart scheme

A new kickstarter scheme is set to benefit businesses in Buxton and Leek.

The Government’s ‘Plan for Jobs’ is a £2 billion scheme designed to create hundreds of brand new, fully-funded jobs for young people aged 16-24.

Buxton and Leek College is encouraging businesses to access this kickstart scheme and employ young people for a completely subsidised six month work placement of 25 hours per week.

The college is acting as an intermediary to allow small and medium business owners to apply for the scheme without having to offer a minimum of 30 placements.

Business Development Manager, Tom Malpass, said: “The scheme is essentially a way for employers to recruit new staff for six months at no cost to the business.

“However, in order to participate, individual employers must usually offer a minimum of 30 Kickstart placements, unless they use an intermediary, such as Buxton and Leek College, which enables them to make up the 30 new starters by joining with other employers.

“In this situation, which we are offering, businesses may employ just one employee if wished.”

Employers can spread the start date of the job placements up until the end of December 2021.

Job placements created with kickstart funding must be new jobs.
