Climate change meeting in Glossop

Internationally renowned climate scientist Kevin Anderson and author and naturalist Mark Cocker are speaking at a meeting in Glossop next week.

The meeting, on Wednesday, September 29, has been organised by High Peak Green New Deal, and is being held at The Central Methodist Church, Chapel Street, Glossop, starting at 7.30pm

It will focus on The Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill that has been drafted by scientists, legal experts, ecological economists and environmentalists, and is designed specifically to reverse the climate and ecological breakdown

Supported by 115 MPs from eight political parties, the Bill requires the UK government to draw up a comprehensive plan to address the Climate and Ecological Emergency.

The plan must accept responsibility for the UK’s fair share of greenhouse gas emissions, put forward proposals to actively restore bio-diverse habitats, such as peatland bogs and stop damage to the natural world through the production, transportation and disposal of goods.

Also addressing the meeting will be a member of High Peak Extinction Rebellion, who will be talking about the important role a representative Climate Assembly must play in producing an action plan, as required by the bill.

Those unable to attend the meeting in person on 29th can participate by Zoom. They can register at https://tinyurl.com/CEE-Bill-Meeting or by emailing highpeakgreennewdeal@gmail.com
