Churches appeal for donations for charity

Glossop Central Methodist Church thank the public

Glossopdale churches are saying a massive thank you to everyone who donated to their Christian Aid Week appeal last year which raised a fabulous £3,210.

Organisers Chris Nudds, from Glossop’s Central Methodist Church, and Sheila Humphrey, from the town’s St James and St Luke’s Church, are now hoping for a similar response this year.

In a joint statement to the Chronicle, they said: “Last year we exceeded our target. This year we are asking you again to help us raise over £3,000.  Although we are not collecting house to house, we are delivering envelopes this year – and there are various ways you can donate.

“You can donate cash in the envelope you receive (see the back of the envelope for where to leave your envelope) or you can donate online to our local ‘Justgiving Page’ at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/GlossopdaleChurches

“You can also donate direct to the Christian Aid Website, donate by phone (020 7523 2269) or send cheques to Christian Aid, 35-41 Lower Marsh, London, SE1 7RL.”

They added: “As well as supporting poor countries to tackle Covid-19, Christian Aid is working to help alleviate the effects of climate change.

“This climate crisis hurts us all. But people living in poverty fight the worst of it every day.

“From drought to flooding, climate change robs people of control over their lives. Extreme weather means people are struggling to survive without a reliable source of water.

“Your gift could help a community build an earth dam, so when the rains do come, they will have the water they need to live. A reliable source of water will help families withstand long drought or relentless rainstorms.

“Every envelope. Every gift. Every challenge can change lives. Thank you so much.”
