Chapel president's birthday raising money for Poppy Appeal

Chapel Royal British Legion was looking for birthday greetings for its president who has been in lockdown since March.

Derek Eley BEM was 103 years old last week and colleagues wanted to flood him with cards.

One said: “He’s now been in lockdown since the end of March and we as a branch usual throw him a party.

“But due to the circumstances (Covid-19 restrictions), we are asking if you could send him a birthday card.

“He also asked if anyone can post a donation to him so he can raise money for his beloved Poppy Appeal of which he has been collecting since the end of the Second World War and has not been able to help for the first time in over 70 years.”

Anyone who wants to send Derek a belated birthday card can post it to the branch secretary at 3-5 Station Road, Dove Holes.

You can donate to the Poppy Appeal at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/derekeley-bday?

So far, the JustGiving page has raised over £650.
