Celebrating Christmas in Charlesworth

St John's Church in Charlesworth is not able to welcome the public to celebrate Christmas indoors this year.

But it does not mean there will be no seasonal festivities.

The vicar, the Rev Felicity Walters, said: “In 2020 Christmas has not been cancelled but we are making memories differently.

“There was little point in a big statement Christmas tree in church with so few to see it, so a tree in the churchyard was made into a Comfort and Joy Christmas tree following the Church of England’s national campaign theme, and people are invited to write prayers to hang on the tree amongst the decorations.

“Churchwardens Linda Tamplin and Carol Ainsworth took the idea of the scarecrows which are made for the annual village carnival and created a nativity scene.

“The St John’s puppets team has been working on a video which will be posted on the church Facebook page at 4pm on Christmas Eve.

“Thanks to the people of St John’s, it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!”
