Candlelit stories at Broadbottom Primary School

Just before half-term, Broadbottom CE Primary School staged a new annual event, providing authors with a chance to promote their books to children.

‘Candlelight stories’ was not only a magical way of introducing children to the joy of books and reading, but an ideal opportunity to get into suitable Halloween fancy dress for the youngsters.

Among those attending was William B Taylor, author of The Bee Polisher.

William was there with his wife Helen and said: “It was fantastic to finally be able to get out and about promoting our book, The Bee Polisher, for the first time in nearly two years.

“The pandemic has been a tough time for everybody. As authors we definitely feel we have missed out on opportunities to promote ourselves and our work during recent lock-downs and the various restrictions we have all had to deal with.

“But we have not been wasting our time and have recorded an audio version of The Bee Polisher, which should be completed very soon.”

William added: “The event was well attended and the fabulous Halloween costumes worn by the children (and some grown-ups) were incredibly creative and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it.”

Families could join readings at different times throughout the evening.
