Campaign delivers for undelivered mail

People in Hadfield and nearby villagers won’t have to travel to the post office in Hyde to pick up their undelivered mail.

They will still have to go over the border into Tameside... but it will be the shorter journey to Hollingworth.

High Peak MP Ruth George and Labour county and borough councillors have been trying to keep the collection point in Hadfield.

The High Peak Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate Robert Largan says he has also campaigned.

It came after the Station Road post office said it was unable to offer a collection service.

County councillor Becki Woods said: “Together with Ruth, the Labour councillors for Hadfield, Padfield and Tintwistle have been working hard with Royal Mail to get a better deal for Hadfield people.

“We are delighted to announce that from November the new collection point will be at Hollingworth Post Office.”

The Labour group said it had hoped to keep the service in Hadfield, but it was not possible.

It believed Hollingworth offered an ‘accessible location’ for the majority of residents.

Mrs George said she visited Hadfield’s postmaster and spoke to the Post Office regional manager to try and reach a solution.

The MP visited Glossop post office to see if Hadfield parcels could be kept there, but with no success.

She said the local Labour team had done everything possible to keep the service in Hadfield.

Mr Largan said: "I’m really pleased the new collection office will be at Hollingworth instead of Hyde.

“Hollingworth is far more convenient for Hadfield and Tintwistle residents. Along with other local residents, I have been lobbying hard for a re-think, so I am relieved that common sense has prevailed.”
