A green-fingered granny decided to branch out when she ran out of space in her garden.
So she picked up a spade, slipped on her gardening gloves and went looking for places to plant.
Jackie Greaves, from Hadfield Road, Hadfield, said: “I used to have an allotment at Tintwistle.
“My garden was full, there was no more room, so I went to look for places outside.”
The search resulted in Jackie removing litter, tidying up verges and planting flowers on the green outside the currently closed Spinners Arms near her home and on nearby Walker Street.
It led to a shoal of compliments from passers-by who saw Jackie busy with her trowel and one neighbour popping out with a piece of cake and a cup of tea.
Jackie, 73, said: “I like getting out and chatting to people, while I am working. They give me plants.
“I also removed lots of litter and broken bottles and filled several plastic bags.”
Jackie’s latest labour of love makeover was at Hadfield Community Garden which volunteers and councillors have created at the side of the path that runs close to the infant school.
After realising some of the land would look better with a good scattering of wood chips and tree bark, she contacted a Hadfield tree felling company who generously donated a trailer load for free.
With help from friends and volunteers, Jackie managed to spread the lot and she’s now looking for a new challenge.
For someone who has dug up tree roots and edged gardens with cut up tyres, Jackie will clearly consider anything!
