Bookings open for new year adult education courses

Residents can now sign up to learn something new in the new year with Derbyshire County Council's adult education service.

Courses for the new spring term start in January with a mixture of online, Covid-secure face-to-face and blended (mixture of both) courses.

The council say Covid-secure safety measures will be in place across all of its community education centres - including those in the High Peak, which are situated in Glossop, New Mills and Buxton.

A wide range of courses are on offer in order for people to gain a new qualification, pick up a new skill or develop a new hobby. These include:

  • Maths and English
  • Languages
  • Digital skills
  • Wellbeing and personal development
  • Art and crafts
  • Food safety

The course brochures are now available.

Councillor Alex Dale, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Young People, said: "We hope 2021 will be a more positive year for everyone and our adult education courses are a great way of getting the new year off to a great start.

“If you’re looking to pick up a new skill to improve your employment opportunities or you simply want to learn for fun we’re sure to have something for you.

“By offering a mixture of online, face-to-face and blended courses you have the option to choose a course which you feel most comfortable with.

"We know some of you may be worried about face-to-face learning in the current environment. That’s why we’re making sure all our centres are Covid-secure whilst offering you the option to learn from the comfort of your own home.

“We’d like to say thank you to all our learners for their understanding and co-operation during these uncertain times. We’ll continue to strive to create the best possible learning environment for you throughout next year and beyond.”

Some online courses can be done at a pace that suits you, whilst other courses will be delivered remotely using Zoom where learners will be part of a live class with a tutor and fellow learners.
