Advent calendar with a difference

Glossop's main foodbank is running its advent calendar with a difference again this year to boost Christmas supplies.

You don’t open a flap and pull out a chocolate with Glossopdale Foodbank's version! Instead, you make a box with lots of spaces and put an item of food in every day.

Alternatively, you can just use a box and put an item in each day.

The Reverse Advent Calendar can start any time from today (Tuesday) for a month and food can be donated, preferably by the first week of December to make sure there is time to get the food packed into Christmas parcels. However, the foodbank say all donations will be greatly received at any time.

To donate, you can take your items to one of the donation points located in Tesco's in Glossop, Marks and Spencer’s in Glossop, Glossop Leisure Centre, Hadfield Library, Simmondley Co-op or Gamesley Early Excellence Centre.

Glossop Funeral Care on Howard Street is also accepting donations between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Alternatively you can go to the foodbank's warehouse at Unit 5 Brookfield Industrial Estate, Peakdale Road, Glossop, on Tuesdays between 9am and 10.30am, contact co-ordinator Charlotte Mendes-Kelly on 07811 684282 or leave a message on the Glossopdale Foodbank Facebook page.
