A-level results success for Stockport Grammar School

The Class of 2021 at Stockport Grammar School are celebrating some top achievements after an unprecedented year.

The Buxton Road school - which has a number of students who live in the High Peak and Tameside - has reported that 86 per cent of grades awarded were A* to B, while 58 per cent were A* and As.

Holly Buckley, from Tameside, was 'over the moon' with her three As in English Literature, Psychology and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), as well as a B in Biology. She is going on to study Psychology at Nottingham University.

Whilst at Stockport Grammar, Holly has been involved in a range of musical co-curricular activities. She commented that it was "a great way to escape" and has been part of the Chamber and Chorus Choir, as well taking on the lead role of Roxy in the school production of 'Chicago'.

She explained: "I’m just so happy that all my hard work paid and I achieved these results. The whole community at SGS has been so supportive from friends to teachers."

Caitlin Cutts says she's excited to be going on to study at Cambridge University.

Following her four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Maths, she will be studying Natural Sciences at Jesus College, Cambridge, where she has also secured a Choral Scholarship. At Cambridge, she will be joining Reece Linney, who will be studying Engineering at Girton College.

Deputy Head Girl Lydia Johnson's four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Further Maths and Maths see her head off to study Medicine at Bristol University.

Lydia said: "My highlights at SGS have been the friendships and the teachers – they have always helped me to do my best."

Hannah Helsby, who joined Stockport Grammar School in the Sixth Form, is delighted with her three A*s in Business, Economics and Psychology.

She will now study International Management at King’s College in London.

While Matthew Howling, who is heading off to study Aero-Engineering at Bristol University following his four A*s, thanked his teachers, saying 'they have an amazing enthusiasm for their subjects'.

Kate Langton's four A*’s in History, Geography, English Literature and her EPQ see her go on to study History at Durham University. A talented soprano, Kate has been involved with a variety of choirs at Stockport Grammar School and, outside of school, she has performed with the Halle Youth Choir.

Head master Dr Paul Owen said: “Our A-level students have worked incredibly hard and I have been hugely impressed by the academic ambition and determination they have shown throughout their time at SGS.

"Their commitment and the dedication of their teachers has enabled them to achieve the highest academic standards and to develop their wider talents to the full.

"Throughout their Sixth Form years, their support for the SGS community, their ambition and their resilience have shone through in the most difficult of circumstances.

"They have become well deserved role models for the younger pupils. I wish them every success as they look forward to starting their courses at prestigious universities across the country."
