Coronavirus test and trace scam alert

Police are warning residents once again to beware of fraudsters using the test and trace coronavirus system to scam people.

Greater Manchester Police is asking the public to be vigilant when sharing personal information and not to give out personal bank details.

Police say fraudsters, posing as contact tracers from the NHS, are tricking people into handing over information such as bank account numbers, social media passwords or making payments for fake or non-existent Covid-19 testing kits.

Detective Superintendent Estelle Mathieson, Head of GMP’s Economic Crime and Cyber Unit, said: "Real test and contact tracers will never ask for any form of payment or bank details, for you to dial a premium rate number or to access a website that does not belong to gov.uk."
