We could all do a little more to get a bit more exercise into our lives.
Whether it’s walking or cycling to work, taking a dip in our local pool, joining a fitness group or even just doing some yoga in our pyjamas there’s so many good options on the table!
Thankfully, there’s a never-ending list of things to do in Tameside for fitness fans. So if you live in our borough and enjoy keeping active, you’ll probably already be aware of things you can do and places you can go to get your exercise fix.
But, if you aren’t aware of all the options available to you, or you’re new to the area and looking for the best place to burn off some calories, here are just a few picks of things to do in Tameside for fitness fans:
Tour of Tameside
If any event epitomises things to do in Tameside for fitness fans, it’s undoubtedly the Tour of Tameside.
An annual event presented by The Running Bee Foundation – who offer grants to health and wellbeing initiatives in the local area in a bid to tackle childhood obesity – the four-day running tour sees avid runners, fitness freaks and even amateurs compete in whichever events they feel confident in taking on.
Runners have four options to choose from: The X Trail 10k, Hell on the Fell (appropriately titled, given just how much of a challenge it is!), the Hero Half Marathon and, of course, the Dr Ron Hill Hyde 7.
For those of you who don’t know, Dr Ron Hill is a world-famous marathon runner and founder of the original Tour of Tameside way back in 1983.
He also holds victories in various international running events over the decades and has raced in a staggering 100 countries, all before his 70th birthday!
This year’s event was a huge success and next year’s Tour of Tameside is sure to be an even bigger hit!
